Whether you're in the process of acquiring your wings and you are aiming to obtain your initial medical, or if you've flown or controlled with the best of them and are back to update your existing medical, I am all too happy to assist you through the process.

For those new to the game, the first step is to establish which class of license you will require. Rather than repeat what is already set out perfectly by the Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) please see below for a great summation of the different class of medicals based on your intentions for participating in aviation.
After that, the process will depend on which medical class you require. See also below again for a summary of the application and renewal process as per CASA.

*** It is important to ensure that you've lodged payment to CASA for your medical application before you arrive for your medical assessment as we will be unable to complete the assessment unless payment has been processed and your record is unlocked for modification. This is currently around $75
Once You've Applied
Once you've completed your details in the medical records system (MRS), you will be supplied by CASA with a list of testing that is required. There are often additional tests for classes 1 and 3 in particular and can include:
-
Eye examination - This will have to be done with a Designated Aviation Ophthalmologist
-
Blood testing for cholesterol and blood sugar - We can send a blood form out to you once you contact our reception.
-
A recent ECG (heart tracing) - within the last two months (alternatively, I can conduct this on the day with you)
-
A recent Audiogram - within the last two months (alternatively, I can conduct this on the day with you)
-
Please bring photo ID to the appointment
-
Ensure you have your aviation reference number (ARN) with you
-
Please bring an up-to-date list of current medications
-
Remember to bring any specialist reports, doctor's letters or hospital discharge summaries
-
If you wear corrective lenses, please bring them along as well as your secondary pair
What to Bring
Excellent! I love solving issues.
Q) I'm worried about a medical condition or medication and I'm not sure if I will pass a medical.
A) You're welcome to book in a private consult and we can discuss it before any commitments are made!
Q) I have a current medical and something big has changed.
A) We can organise a private consult and discuss the change and how it will affect you.
Q) I have an existing medical with you and I am after some quick advice on how a new medication or small condition will affect my aviation.
A) Easy, if you're after some quick advice on how you need to address something to do with your health but keep it in line with your obligations to CASA, I'm more than happy to take a call if time permits, or will get back to you within 48 hours.
Q) How much will that quick call or email cost me?
A) Not a thing! Anything to help! I love pilots!
I Have An Issue
Q) You haven't seen me before but I was hoping I could get that quick advice thing for free
A) I don't love pilots THAT much.

Q) Something horrible has happened! I'm sitting in the emergency department about to go into surgery and I'm worried about my CASA compliance with a procedure they've recommended! I can't wait 48 hours, this is an emergency!
A) I am currently in the process of setting up an emergency paging service so that I can be made aware of your emergency immediately. Please check back soon for details.
